How to Make a Wreath
These instructions are appropriate for a Christmas wreath using a large cluster of
materials or boughs of white pine, balsam fir, red cedar or similar materials
that are available in your area.
- Assemble your materials first: a wire wreath ring**, one spool of medium-gauge
wire***, a pair of wire cutters, a cluster of 3 to 6 pieces of material,
each one 8-12 inches long. (Note: the larger the wreath ring, the
longer the lengths of material it can attractively accommodate.)
Securely wrap the end of the spooled wire around the wreath ring. Do
not cut the wire.
- Place a cluster of material on the wreath ring. Wrap the wire
tightly several times around the cut ends of the material and then around
the wreath ring. Again, do not cut the wire
- Using another cluster of material, overlap the first cluster, placing the
new cluster 2-3 inches down from the previous cluster. Follow step two
again, wrapping the wire around the cluster and then around the wreath
ring. Continue this process until you've gone all the way around the
frame.
- Attach the last cluster of material by lifting the first cluster and
wiring it underneath leaving 1 or 2 inches of extra wire to wrap around the
wreath ring. Clip any out of place sprigs of material to even up the
wreath.
- Add any special decorations (such as ornamental sprigs of bittersweet,
rosehip, or fruit)
- If you wish to attach a bow to the wreath, simply slip a wire through the back of the
bow and tie it to the wreath.
